The commitment to the life-long acquisition of knowledge

Students must be encouraged to see their high school education as part of a continuum of learning; providing a foundation in skills, concepts and behaviors that will last a life time. DY Prep will focus students on achieving desired academic outcomes by teaching the processes that inform them.

As scholars, DY Prep students will:

  • Obtain a Regents diploma
  • Complete a minimum of two years of a foreign language
  • Meet the specified exit criteria for all subjects including the arts
  • Apply to a college and/or university

Rubrics, standards and learning objectives will be clearly presented to students so that they are fully aware of what is expected of them and what will be required to achieve mastery in all subject areas. Students will meet individually with their Advisor regularly to address academic concerns and strategize means to ensure proficiency. Providing our students with the tools to ask thoughtful questions and find the answers will drive our vision of instilling them with a commitment to the life-long acquisition of knowledge.

Behavioral expectations of our scholars:

  • We embrace failure as an opportunity to learn
  • We challenge what we know and challenge ourselves to know more
  • We expect to achieve at high levels and constantly work toward that goal
