The Poetry Slam Competition

DY Prep is the champion of the first slam of the school year. The team recited against Intec High School on the 31st of January, 2008, and won the Bronx title. They won a second competition on the 4th of February, 2008, against a school from Yonkers and, once again, Intec high school. The effort of all the poets was remarkable at the first slam, and in both slams the poems were inspiring. Victory is the perfect word to define what the slam team achieved. All poets pre- pared the best of their best poems. Each poem was about a different topic; each one told a different story, such as the absence of a mother, to the arguments and death of siblings, to the massacre of war, to reasons why poetry is a window to reach our soul. I want to thank Jesica, Rainey, Erick, Haydil, Denisse, Dariana, Miosoty, Ryashia, Johanny and Jeremy for making their best performances and for being there to support the team. Also thanks especially to Ms. Girmay, the teacher, the friend, and the coach of the team.
