POSITIONS
As of July 15th, DY Prep has successfully filled all of its teaching positions. We would like to thank all of the candidates that have expressed interest and submitted their information. As a growing high school, we look forward to reviewing applications in the future.
ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS
New York State and New York City certification in the appropriate content area, with satisfactory ratings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Because teacher roles in small schools are varied and complex, first priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate in their resume and cover letter experiences which indicate willingness to become involved in these essential aspects:- Responsibility for planning lessons for heterogeneous students that meet the standards and fulfill the mission of Dream Yard Prep, and effectively teaching them.
- Collaborate with teaching artist to plan and implement arts integrated projects
- Serve as Community Advisor to approximately 17 students and facilitate character development curriculum. For an understanding of advisory structures see the "The Advisory Guide" by Carol Miller Lieber and Rachel A. Poliner
- Effectively use technology as an instructional tool
- Support and enforce school-wide norms and expectations
- Availability for summer planning and ongoing curriculum work. Advance notice of the dates will be supplied, and those who attend will be compensated according to the terms of the UFT contract. Teacher participation in the activities is voluntary, but strongly encouraged, as the activities are very important for the development of the school
- Commit to ongoing growth in professional competencies and maintain a professional teaching portfolio
SELECTION CRITERIA
The successful candidate will have:
- Willingness to fulfill the duties and responsibilities outlined above
- Demonstrated ability to build rigorous evaluation and assessment into teaching and learning process including: criteria and rubric development, formative interim assessments, formalized written and verbal presentations, and portfolios
- Demonstrated ability to use differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a safe learning environment through well managed classrooms
- Ability to follow a backward planning process for curriculum design. For an understanding of Planning Backwards/Curriculum Mapping read Wiggens & Mc Tighe or Heidi Hayes-Jacobs
- In-depth knowledge of the concepts in skills related to specific content area
