Student Advisory

Advisory Periods are an integral part of the life and culture of DY Prep. In order to build a stronger, more engaged, school community where Scholarship, Artistry and Character can be learned, practiced and mastered, students and teachers meet in small groups called Advisories 3 times per week. These periods allow students and teachers to build strong student-teacher relationships as well as, strong peer relationships where trust and a sense of mutual obligation is established. The primary focus of the Advisory period experience is to develop character and cultivate life skills that will empower students throughout their lives. As Advisors, teachers engage students in structured activities that allow them to address student’s social, emotional and academic needs based on the establishment of mutual respect, partnership and leadership. Advisories give students a chance to actively and meaningfully participate in their communities, regardless of ability and where students can practice and exercise leadership, regardless of strength.
