Character

The positive attributes that mark a thoughtful, articulate, analytic and purposeful individual

DY Prep believes that our youth can be held accountable for engaging their world constructively and making positive contributions. Our character development curriculum will empower students with the skills to discover and develop their best possible selves.

As individuals of sound character, DY Prep students will:

  • Work to develop and sustain an advisory and house culture of mutual respect and support
  • Develop and execute civic service learning projects
  • Engage in a college preparation curriculum

Advisory Periods will provide students with the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with a small number of their peers and a faculty member over their four-year high school careers. Each Advisory will grow and learn together through establishing norms and values, celebrating each other, completing service projects, becoming viable college candidates, researching careers and developing life skills.

Behavioral expectations of our citizens of strong character:

  • We make choices now that have a positive effect on our futures
  • We work to understand our differences and build on our similarities to cultivate community
  • We expect the best from ourselves and each other
  • We treat ourselves, those around us and our environment with respect
